The seeds for Kavita were planted in between the busy chaos of Mumbai, the city that Chef Tushar calls home—and the quiet seaside town of Malvan.
From eating delicacies sold by street vendors, to learning how to cook over a charcoal fire with his matriarchs, Tushar knew cooking was his passion.
Kavita, meaning poetry, signifies not
just a love for the delicate balance of flavours, but the wondrous ways that food plays such an integral role in memories.
At Kavita, our cuisine is deeply rooted
in the diverse regional flavors and traditional cooking techniques of India, thoughtfully combined with the finest local BC produce. We aim to showcase the rich cultural diversity of India and the many communities that make it unique, offering a taste of the country’s festivals, heritage, and time-honored culinary traditions.

tUSHAR TONDVALKAR, CHEF & OWNER
Tushar is the soul behind Kavita. His culinary journey spans over a decade, from the Michelin-starred kitchens of Gaggan and Gaa in Bangkok to some of Vancouver’s most respected dining rooms, including Blue Water Café, Bauhaus, and The Fish House in Stanley Park. As head chef at Mumbai Local, he brought the flavours of his heritage to the forefront, before expanding into
The Indian Pantry, a line of simmering sauces and spice blends born from his passion for sharing Indian cuisine with every home.

The Ammakase experience
Kavita’s Ammakase is a one-of-a-kind tasting menu that transforms with the changing of seasons and the availability of local produce. Each experience is thoughtfully designed as a culinary journey across India’s vast and vibrant flavours.
To ensure every guest feels cared for, we require reservations and at least 24 hours’ notice to accommodate any dietary preferences or restrictions.
